Reflections from Widows Concerning the Ministry of Haven of Hope
After hearing members of the group mention God’s speaking to them or directing them to a certain task, I thought I might hear God’s voice too. And then the first time I heard God speak to me it felt as if my husband’s arms were embracing me, but I could tell it was God’s love for me. For the first time in months, I do not feel so alone. Now I can say I am developing a relationship with God (not just a religion), and he is guiding me through this season of grief.

I first attended the widow’s conference in great disillusionment following my husband’s suicide. When I left the meeting, I knew I had received “the hope of my calling,” This ministry has extended great life to me. I’ve gone from surviving to growing and thriving.

God’s leading me to this group has been such a blessing. Our times of tears, laughter, and sharing have encouraged and uplifted me. While none of us would have chosen this path of widowhood, I am thankful that we are on the journey together. God has taken me from guilt for thinking about going on, from remembering the disease and death and regretting things I didn’t do or say, from wondering who I am now, from constantly changing emotions, and from fear of facing the future to recognizing that God’s faithfulness is my strength and hope, to reaching out to others who are hurting, to giving thanks in all things, to recognizing every day is a blessing, and to focusing on God and not the past.
